German cockroaches are the small, light brown cockroaches with two dark stripes behind the head. They live entirely indoors, breed very quickly and love the warmth of fridge motors, dishwashers, microwaves and coffee machines. In Surfers Paradise apartments, where kitchens sit close together and share pipes and walls, they are the most common cockroach problem we hear about.
A single female can carry an egg case holding dozens of young, so a few cockroaches can turn into a large population within weeks. Seeing them during the day is a sign the hiding spots are full. Sprays from the supermarket often scatter them deeper into walls and cupboards and can make baiting harder, so it is better to stop spraying before the crew arrives.
The crew we book places gel baits in the cracks and hinges where German cockroaches shelter, and may add dusts in voids and targeted sprays in some spots. Baits are eaten and shared through the colony, which helps reach cockroaches that never come out in the open. You will be asked to keep food sealed, fix dripping taps and avoid wiping the bait away.
