American cockroaches are the big, reddish brown cockroaches that turn up on humid nights, sometimes flying in from a balcony or appearing from a floor waste in the bathroom. They mostly live outside the living areas, in drains, sewers, garden beds, roof spaces, sub floors and bin areas, and come inside looking for food and water.
